
Cheryl S. Scotney Senior Attorney
Cheryl Scotney received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Ball State University and her Juris Doctorate degree from Capital University Law School. Cheryl is admitted to practice law in Ohio, before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. She is a member of the American and Columbus Intellectual Property Law Associations and is outgoing President of the Columbus Intellectual Property Law Association.
Cheryl was employed for over twenty years with Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). She worked in the Editorial division in the Organic Chemistry department, Patent Services department, and the Markush department. Cheryl then transferred to the Marketing division to become the Help Desk Groupleader where she assisted customers with online chemical searching and oversaw the work of many chemists who staffed the telephones of the CAS Help Desk. Cheryl evaluated and tested new software being developed by CAS.
Cheryl is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications involving inventions pertaining to the chemical arts, in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign trademark registration applications, in the filing of opposition and cancellation trademark proceedings, and in the preparation and prosecution of copyright registration applications.
